DIY Patio Paver Makeover in a Mediterranean Style

I recently extended the size of the patio by 3 feet to match the size of the awning over it.  The pavers were faded and they did not all match and we have an area that is filled in with odd bricks and even odder pavers.
I painted the pavers & bricks all the same color of a terra cotta that is in the bricks on the front of the house.  Then searched Pinterest to find a tile pattern that could be replicated easily and simply and that could be stamped onto the pavers.
This quatrefoil was perfect.  I drew up a pattern on paper using a cereal bowl as a template, you could easily use a compass or anything else round the size you want.  Then cut the pieces out and traced them onto cellulose kitchen sponges with a marker, there are 4 pieces here.  I cut the sponges with scissors and glued to a board that was slightly smaller than the paver so I could eyeball the edges.  This is a piece of siding but wood would work well, something very stiff that won't bend.
I re-drew the pattern on the wood so I'd know where to glue down the sponge pieces, plain old white glue worked fine.
The stamp was screwed to a scrap 1" x 2" about 3 feet long.
I used a small trim brush to paint the sponge areas.  Don't over saturate it or it will gush over but you want a nice amount of paint on the sponge to get good coverage.  You might want to play on a piece of cardboard first.  I got 4 good stamps before I had to add more paint.   Pressing hardest in the last stamp of course.
Perfection was definitely not the goal here as a worn Mediterranean look was what I wanted.  Every other paver seemed to be the perfect option so that it was not too busy.  I also spun the stamping board a quarter turn with every stamp so it would not look cookie cutter.
I cut a small square from a sponge and glued it to the end of a scrap 2" x 2".  Painted it the same way and stamped the centers of the quatrefoils.
I think it turned out pretty great!

Now that's a good idea! Adds a lot of interest, too.

Not knowing what type of paint to use, and having a concrete porch, I once watched Martha Stewart show how easy it was to use painter's tape and make hexagons, then remove the tape and it would magically look as if the hexagons were cemented into place.

That ugly floor peeled for ten years.

The paint was cheap and simple exterior paint from Walmart. The paver color is a flat paint and the white and blue are semi-gloss.

The patio pavers work is just amazing. I love the design used and the color of the patio. Looks very Hispanic and unique. I would like to try something like this and redo my patio. I just need to find the time and get to it.
