For the Love of Lilacs

My first lilacs from something that grows in the garden since 1981!

Lilacs are my most favorite flower and the house I grew up in had huge bushes that were decades old.  The scent permeated the air and one branch brought in the house scented it for days.  This variety is not as strongly or sweetly scented but they are the only kind that can handle our intense summer heat and survive.

The only other time I had lilacs was in 2000 when a co-worker brought me back some from her family's garden in Ohio where she went on vacation.  I kept those for over a week until there was no scent left and the flowers were all dried up and brown.

Can you tell how much I love lilacs?

I don't think I've ever smelled lilacs for real. I hear so much about their wonderful scent and know that I am really missing one of God's blessings.

He has blessed me with other delicious scents down here in the sub-tropics though and I am thankful.

Happy Spring to you ~ FlowerLady
