Now that I'm settling in to my new home I have been helping my parents with a few things too.
We already had a small pile of stuff to take to Goodwill and Dad decided we needed to clear out one of his two sheds and get rid of some more junk at the same time. It didn't take long for the pile to get too big as he had 3 large storage bins that were not being used along with some other big items.
I had noticed that the neighbor seemed to be straightening out his shed and walked over there even though I had never met him. He turned off his lawn mower...gratefully I think. And I told him about the containers and asked if he needed any. He came to look and carted off not only the containers but a fairly new toilet and an old sink that had been replaced along with a few other odds & ends he thought he could use.
So that's how you get rid of junk you don't need, but is still good, without lifting a finger to move it!
A lot of folks will set stuff by the road with a free sign on it (or not) and that works quite well too. All in all it's easier than hauling heavy items to Goodwill 30 miles away, though we still managed to take a pickup load of stuff there.

Fits into my motto: Work smarter not harder!
One man's junk is another man's treasure and yours has had to travel zero miles to its new owner. Consider the planet saved!!
