Blustery March Musings

It's the last day of February and March is coming in like the traditional lion, it is gusty and cold today after being in the 80's for the last 3 days. That blue norther blew in this morning about 4 a.m.

March is the 3rd month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar, and one of the seven months which are 31 days long. The name of March comes from ancient Rome, when March was the first month of the year and named Martius after Mars, the Roman god of war.



Also in March is St Patrick's Day on the 17th. Erin Go Bragh!

Historical names for March include the Saxon Lenctmonat, named after the equinox and gradual lengthening of days, and the eventual namesake of Lent. Saxons also called March Rhed-monat or Hreth-monath (deriving from their goddess Rhedam/Hreth), and Angles called it Hyld-monath.

March 2nd is Texas Independence Day. It was also Sam Houston's birthday. Who is Sam Houston? the president of the Republic of Texas. In honor of those events here are some of Charles' photos we have for sale in my etsy shop.
