Methodist Symbol in Couching Stitch

Here's this week's stitching journal page with the featured stitch of the week: Couching.  I really could not get my head around using this stitch creatively.  Please visit our focus group's blog for lots more ways to use couching.
Couching is fairly easy, you lay down a thread or some other type thing and stitch it into place much like the Lilliputians held down Gulliver.  I did have issues with the lines staying straight but that may be more to do with me using 6 strand embroidery thread rather than something more substantial.  Perhaps I should have used ribbon or even a yarn.  Not my favorite page but it will do.
So on February 28, 1784 John Wesley chartered the Methodist Church and this is their symbol,  a cross with the red flame of the Holy Spirit.
I chose this design because I was baptized in a Methodist Church, 1 day before my 18th birthday.  I've found it ironic that I was baptized on Hallowe'en in a protestant church ~ a day also known as the day Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Wittenberg church, his complaints of the abuses within the Roman Catholic church of the time which started the Reformation.  It's ironic because I am no longer protestant and in fact I went back further than the Roman Catholic church we know today, to the original Christian church known as Eastern Orthodoxy.

I like the fact that you commemorated Wesley, even though you are no longer Methodist. It's still something important in making you who you are today.
