February TUSAL

Here's my ort jar for the February TUSAL (Totally Useless Stitch A Long).  I have really added a lot since the first of the year.  The bottom is snips of yarn from the afghan I am knitting from springtime colored yarn bought at the thrift shop.  I am working on that at my Wednesday evening sewing circle as it is fairly mindless and we do a lot of talking there.  Hence the progress on that is a bit slow.
The top part with all the red and beige colors is snips from the Christmas SAL hosted by Yoyo at Dragon My Needle.  I am working on it in the evenings after dinner.  I can't believe how much I have done already.  I will probably have to find another Christmas project as this one will be finished waaay before December 6, St. Nicholas Day.

This is the first time I have worked a pattern like this with no backstitching.  I am amazed after working on it up close and only seeing squares of color, how lovely it is and how the pattern becomes a portrait when you get away from it.  I am really loving the play of color and the depth.  You will notice that I have not done the halo part yet, that's because I have plans to change it up.  I want to make it larger than the pattern calls for as it looks a bit wimpy to me and I also want to add gold metallic to the regular DMC thread.  I will wait till I have everything else done to do that.

On other crafting fronts I am making more glass icon pendants to sell at a local craft fair in April and ideas are clogging up my mind for dolls as I picked up some incredible ART DOLL magazines at the thrift shop and they have totally inspired me to try some new things with the recreated Barbies rather than just the historical costumes.

On a sad note, we appear to have lost the oldest cat, Precious.  She was pretty old, about 19.  Two weeks ago Saturday was the last time we saw her.  I'm pretty sure she found a private place to go and fall to her last sleep.  I'm sure she's keeping company with the other pets in heaven.

St Nicholas is coming along extremely well! Looks like a medieval rendering in oil! You are amazing. I know what you mean about halos--I had to do the same with mine. :-)

Oh, but how my heart breaks for Precious. I hope she and Castor and my beloved Ashleigh are all frolicking together in happy reunion on the other side. She and Ashleigh were always good friends. Like us. I offer you my sincerest sympathy, Dearheart.

So sorry Precious has just wandered away to her eternal sleep. It comforts us to know sometimes.
St Nic is looking great, I'm sure you're completely right about the halo, why have a small whimpy one when it can be huge and sparkly?!Far more fun!

So sorry to hear about Precious. My heart goes out to you.

I agree that your design for Yoyo's SAL is looking great! I am finding the same thing with mine - as I take a picture of it and look at it on the computer it really comes together.

I am sorry about your Precious. I am sure that my dog Charlotte is playing with her in heaven right now. Charlotte loved cats and they loved her.

On a happier note, you project is coming along beautifully. I didn't stitch at all this weekend. I need to buckle down and get stitching!!

Have a blessed day.

I love to go searching for treasures in thrift stores. I know it will be hard to find another treasure like Precious.
